Dupo Community Unit School District 196 lies in the far southeastern edge of St. Clair County. The school district serves the communities of Dupo, East
Carondelet, North Dupo, and part of the Sugarloaf Township bluff residents. The Village of Dupo continues to look for opportunities to grow new
businesses which will attract new families to our district.
Over 1,150 students attend Dupo schools in programs from Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade. Bluffview Elementary School houses Pre-K through
6th grade. The Jr. High houses grades 7 and 8 while the Sr High completes the educational process for grades 9-12. Both the Jr. and Sr. High complex has
been renovated extensively over the past few years.
Dupo Community School District offers a full scope of educational opportunities for the students. Along with the various educational curriculum
options, Dupo is a member of the Cahokia Conference offering many sports and extracurricular activities for all students. A full special education
curriculum is offered to meet the needs of our students as well. In the fall of 2015, Dupo #196 will implement a 1:1 technology initiative providing Dell
Chromebooks for all students in grades 4-12. We strongly believe in providing today’s students a rigorous, standards based curriculum, imbedded
with 21st Century digital learning opportunities.
Bluffview Elementary opened a new, state-of-the-art school in 2000. Students at Bluffview are offered a strong curriculum based on the New Illinois
Learning Standards. Students at Bluffview Elementary consistently score well above the state average on state mandated assessments. Furthermore
, the school provides a “Gold Level” pre-kindergarten program. In addition, Bluffview Elementary provides both teacher and student access to
cutting edge technology at every grade level.
The Jr. High has a state of the art Science Lab complete with lab stations and fixtures. Curriculum updates continue in the JH with new technology
enhancements including Promethean Boards, fixed station computer labs, and Dell Chromebooks for every student. Dupo Jr High was recognized
as a top achieving school by the Illinois State Board of Education.
In the fall of 2015, as part of the 1:1 initiative, all Dupo High School students will be issued a Dell Chromebook to use in both the classroom and at
home. Our goal is to provide students state-of-the-art connectivity for research, improved cooperative learning opportunities, and technology based
project learning that meets 21st Century Digital Learning standards. Furthermore, United Streaming and Promethean Board access in all classrooms
have improved instructional delivery and student engagement. We currently offer college prep courses as well as tech prep in English and History as
well as dual credit courses through Southwestern Illinois College. Additionally, Dupo High School provides one of the top ROTC Jr. Cadet training
programs in the state of Illinois. Dupo Sr. High was recently recognized as one of the “Top 99 Improving High Schools” in Illinois.
While there are limited vocational classes currently being offered at the Sr. High campus, students interested in pursuing a trade as a future career,
attend Collinsville Area Vocational Center. The CAVC provides excellent hands on training for a variety of high demand vocational careers. Students
attending this program have had tremendous success transitioning from school to work in high paying vocational careers.
